The educational system in Mauritius
Mauritius is a former British colony and a member of the Commonwealth, so its educational system is modeled on the British one.
Young Mauritians are obliged to learn English and French throughout their schooling, divided into 2 cycles:
Concerning the first cycle, elementary school, lasts 6 years in Mauritius and includes, for example, the 6th grade in France (first year of secondary school). Primary education ends with the Primary School Achievement Certificate (PSAC) examination, which is taken over the last two years of elementary school.
Certified students then go on to high school, which includes middle school and high school. The total duration of the program is 7 years, with the SC (School Certificate at grade5 ) and the HSC (High School Certificate at grade 7).
